Community care often begins with mutual aid groups, nonprofits, cooperatives, and caring citizens. By listening to the people already doing good work on the ground, City Council members can learn from their efforts.

I’ve been reaching out to many of the following organizations to see what support they need from local government.

Neighborhood Emergency Teams

Neighborhood Emergency Teams are Portland residents trained by PBEM and Portland Fire & Rescue to provide emergency disaster assistance within their own neighborhoods.”

Ground Score Association

Ground Score Association is an association of informal recyclers, waste pickers, canners, dumpster divers, and other environmental workers who create and fill low-barrier waste management jobs in Portland, Oregon.”

PHLUSH

Sisters of the Road

Tank the Tanks

Tank the Tanks began in the summer of 2022 on the lawn of Cathedral Park where four local women gathered to brainstorm how best to keep their community safe from the dangers of the tank farms (CEI Hub) nearby. ”
